I forgot to include this the other day... I went and saw a flamenco version of Carmen. I don't really know the story, it has something to do with a woman, probably Carmen, who hooks up with some soldiers and the soldiers get jealous of one another and fight and kill each other and then Carmen kills herself. That's about what I got out of it... But the story wasn't really the important part. Flamenco is really intense. The top (arms and torso) move and look like a middle eastern dance, soft and wavy, the bottom stomps and moves rigidly. Colorful dresses of orange, red, blue, green that almost seem out of place here in Salamanca where everything is pretty earth toney (Flamenco is from the south so...) Although they didn't sing, I later got to hear some flamenco singers...fuck they sound sad. A beautiful wailing filled with sorrow. If the color blue, or rather gray blue like during a storm, could sing it would sing flamenco. I'm sure I'll be able to see some live flamenco in Andalucia while I'm down there.
Also, I've been getting along with those young folks in my group about whom I had complained a bit. They're really nice and party like they're 20...which they are. Not that I get along with everyone but that's life...and then I wouldn't have anything to complain about. I'll get around to describing each person...maybe...like I'll get around to sending the postcards that I've already written. Just have to go to the postoffice and get them stamped...I've missed two birthdays now (Josey and Mitch) who's next? Well, at least I've been keeping up with this so y'all know what's up in Chad's Really Nifty Adventure in Iberia.
