Scuba diving from the small village of Taganga is touted as being close the cheapest anywhere in the world. For $35, me and Steve got two dives and a couple of hours at a private beach complete with a diving board (sort of) into the ocean. Not too bad.
It was just the two of us diving yesterday so we took the small boat. They never even checked if we were certified. 10 mintues into our boat ride, the engine broke down. Eventually we got towed by another boat to our first dive site. The diving was pretty good. No real big fish but I got to hold a sea-horse in my hands which was pretty cool. Steve tapped me on the shoulder and showed me his air guage was down to 600psi. At 500, you´re supposed to bee-line for the surface. At 500psi, our Columbian divemaster gave Steve the 'everything´s okay sign' and kept pointing out stuff. At 300psi, he handed Steve his extra breathing regulator. And when Steve ran out of air 20m down, we slowly began making our way back to the surface. Apparantly, our dive master was also close to running out of air.
I saw a seasnake while snorkeling after lunch. White with black spots all over him. REally didn´t snorkel that much after that. Today we´re flying back ot Panama and then heading to Costa Rica tomorrow.
Apparantly you can go on cocaine factory tours here. For about $20 US, they pick you up, blindfold you, drive you off into the country somewhere, unblindfold you, and then you can watch the entire process, and sample the finished product. Probably have to save that outing for next time I´m in Columbia. Later,
Andrew
