Granted I have a few extra month´s traveling experience on big brother, so I try my best to pass his way a few words of wisdom from time to time. Important lesson: when getting on a bus, particularily for a long bus ride, make sure you smell worse than everyone else on said bus. Don´t shower the night before, don´t wear deoderant. The logic behind this rule is that, if you smell worse than everyone else on the bus, then they, in turn, will not smell so bad to you. Plus as a bonus they will give you more space. As you may suspect it did not take long for Andrew to embrace this simple yet effective lesson, and our bus ride comfort level is high.
We made it to Tayrona park after a greuling hour walk through the jungle only to find that you can´t swim there cause of crazy riptide currents. Obviously, we took this as merely a recomendation on the part of those in the know. But after getting knee deep in the water, we decided we´d rather leave the park will balls intact. It was frickin scary out there.
Everything is dead by 9:00pm out in Tayrona, so when Andrew conveniently went into a sugar-low at 10:00pm due to insulin overdose... he had to be resourceful. I was chillin in my hammock, not too worried about it yet, and rather enjoying listening to Andrew's girlish screams as he made his way through the snake infested grass in search of some sugar. Finding none, he had to be even more resourceful. Sifting through our meagre possessions, Andrew was pleasantly surprised that we were actually not out of food. We still had 14 soggy Cherry Halls. After confirmation that Hall´s do indeed contain sugar, he popped the 14 in his mouth, and we went to sleep. I feel confident that Cherry Halls will haunt Andrew´s dreams forever.
Today we went for a run. However the path turned into a beach, which turned the run into a walk. Coming to the end of the beach we proceeded to run to a nearby town Pueblito. However this path turned into a mountain, and again the run turned into a walk. Countless lizards and one snake later we made it to the top. On the way down Andrew walked into a spider web, and was almost eye gouged by a spider the size of his hand.
Thus ends our trip in the seaside Park. Total time hiking: 10 hours. Total time swimming: 10 minutes.
Tomorrow we SCUBA!!
