Heading North

2006-06-03, Mui Ne, Vietnam

Mui Ne didn't seem to have the greatest beach, but they had some awesome white sand dunes that we sledded down on a plastic sheet while watching the sunrise at 5am. We toured around in a old army jeep for the morning and saw some highlights of Mui Ne. The fishing market was absolutely nuts, hard to explain but will attempt - on the shore were hundreds of fish traders - men & women, about 100m from the shore there were many many fishing boats which had come in from fishing overnight, but they couldn't get to shore. So they had to get the fish to shore with big round floating baskets that about a few men would get into and paddle out to the boats, through the waves, amazingly they made it to the boats and returned with the basket full of fish. Then the fishwives woiuld fight over the fish or someone would buy it out of other baskets, then it would be taken elsewhere buy ox & cart. It was mayhem.

We had a funny guide -Huie, who gave Hamish a haircut after a few morning beers - wasn't too bad.
