GEOGRAPHY In Iowa - 'down south' means Florida or Texas. 'Back East' means New Jersey or Maine. In Alaska - 'down south' means Washington state (or anywhere in the lower 48 for that matter). 'Back East' means Minnesota.
SLUGS Alaska is full of slugs - I think due to all the moisture. Correct me if I am wrong, but slugs have never lived where I have. So, they still cause me to wince a littler when I see them slowly moving b/c they look like poo. Natives used slugs on the gums of their babies because it's a natural anesthetic and next weekend at the KTN Blueberry Arts Festival they are having slug races. Another FYI, the banana slug (found in KTN) is the official mascot of UC-Santa Cruz...random http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slug
WEATHER The weather has been incredible the last three days...it was sunny and a balmy 70 something. Prior to the sun we had almost a week of gloom and rain...depressing. I almost was wishing for a hot humid midwest day - almost.
YOGA I went to a yoga class yesterday. It was super relaxing and really demanding. It turned out that I was least flexible and most sweaty participant, awesome.
DEPARTURES My friends Jeremiah and Renee leave KTN today to go back home to Portland. They are ditching out of KTN a little early. We went to a little going away thing for them on Friday night. They were fun people to hang out this, and super interesting. I'm only in KTN for 3 1/2 more weeks....and which point, I think I'll be ready to go. I'm looking forwarding to: - Sleeping in a real bed - Seeing my friends and family in DBQ - Stopping in Beloit to see everyone - Spending time with brother Jeff before he leave for London (maybe Nate should come home too...hint hint) It's hard to believe the summer is winding down so fast. Such is life I guess.
Off to finish my laundry. Laundry in KTN costs $5 to wash and dry ONE load, absurd.
