It worked out perfectly this weendend for a rendezvous with Kimberly. Another fellow from Chicoutimi was driving to Montréal and didn`t mind dropping me off in Québec city on his way. It was so great to be able to talk in person with Kimberly and find out what we had each been up to for the past few weeks.
Québec is a wonderful city to simply walking around, talking, eating, and climbing the odd tree, and that`s more or less what we ended up doing. There is seemingly always something interesting going on during the weekend, so you are bound to end up seeing something cool. For example, on Saturday we were walking from the Plains of Abraham to Rue St. Jean where we had seen a grocery store the day before (la carotte joyeux, what a great name), and as we stepped onto Rue St. Jean from a side street there were all of a sudden a million people packed in the street. It was like stepping through a portal - no people on the previous road, and now a huge festival. Sure.
We had a picnic in the street, listened to different live musicians every two blocks, moved to the beat of a brazillian marching band, walked by a bar with a temporary lawn in the middle of street (they seriously rolled out sod on the sidewalk for thier patio) and Kim purchased a really neat old leather sac from a street vendor outside a vine shop. Kimberly`s friend from Trois Pistolles, Jen, also hung out with us all weekend. We all really enjoyed each other`s company, and I really enjoyed the breadth of conversatin we had - from stories of Chicoutimi and Trois Pistolles to thoughts on evangelism to the things that have shaped our lives. I always enjoy talking with people I already know well, and I had missed that, I realized, after meeting so many new people in Chicoutimi.
It was sad to say goodbye on Sunday afternoon, but I now look forward to the opportunity to visit Montréal with Kimberly after the program with even greater anticipation.
