I know that your inboxes are getting loaded up... don't worry, only four more days. :( Yesterday was a fantastic learning day for me. Not only did I see some of the greatest things in Rome, but I also saw some of the worst things in Rome. We decided to go see the Spanish steps in the evening, and they were nice. After we walked around for a bit, we decided to take the train home. But, when we got down to the metro, they were doing maintenance so we couldn't. There were two Italian guys our age who were also looking to use the train and were confused as to why it wasn't working, too, so we took off to find the next station together. Communication is definitely hard when both sides speak different languages, but with many hand gestures and bad Italian and bad English, we were able to work together to find the station. But, the station wasn't very far from our hostel, so we decided just to walk. At this time, it was dark outside, but we thought that we were fine with a lot of people. The two guys explained to us that it is very dangerous at night at the train station by our hotel, so they found a security guard who could speak English to explain to us that they were cops and they would walk us to our hotel. They showed the security guard their badges and photo IDs, so we knew that they were the real thing. In the process of walking home, we saw a lot of homeless people and one girl in particular left a lasting impression in my memory. She was standing next to a man who appeared to be trying to sell people drugs and swaying side to side. When I looked at her, her eyes were rolling into the back of her head. It is one of the most disturbing and disgusting things that I have ever seen in my life. Rome is definitely beautiful by day, but by night it can be ugly. We arrived safely at our hostel, and the two cops talked to the hostle owners and told them that they should be telling the people staying there how dangerous it is. Thank God for people who care. Anyways, enough of the dramatic stories. :) We learned our lesson. Today we spent an amazing day touring Vatican city and learning a LOT about Michaelangelo and Leonardo DaVinci. It was fantastic. The whole day was spent looking at amazing pieces of art and learning about them. I'll never forget it. Our feet are about to fall off, because we have been walking the entire day, every day, in our flip flops. Not a good choice. haha. Now we're exhausted and going to go to bed early. Tomorrow morning we're off to Florence to see what they have in store for us there! :) Have a great day everyone.
