Sorry if I am flooding your inboxes with my travels, but I think that it'll be easier to just write a little bit every day. Last night we flew into Rome from Shannon. Our plane was late and then it took forever to get our luggage, so we weren't able to start leaving the airport until about 12:50 in the morning. :( Which means that the trains and buses had stopped for the night. I knew this full well, but there was a man from a hotel picking up guests from the airport, so I asked him where the train was and stuff. He was super nice, even though he barely spoke English, and let us ride with the group. Not only did he do that, but he dropped us off right at our hostel. That was really nice, because it's not the most comfortable thing to be hauling a suitcase around at 1:30 in the morning in Rome looking for a hostel. He wouldn't accept our money, but he did give us the traditional Italian hug and kisses on the cheek. What a great first impression of Italy! Our hostel room was air conditioned, so we were very very happy. This morning we slept in, ate some of the so called 'breakfast' that the hostel had and then went to the grocery store to buy lunch goods and such. Then it was off to the Colloseum. All I can say to that is 'wow.' It was awesome taking the tour and learning about everything that went into it. Walking around inside was nuts, too. I can't believe that they built that thousands of years ago. We saw the Arc of Constantine and a palace near by. It was all very very interesting, but it's over 90 degrees here, so we were sweating the whole time. It wasn't very comfortable, but we're in Rome, so I guess it doesn't matter! :) Then we went and got some of the famous Gelato and tried to cool off a bit. We're taking a little break now to go eat and check emails, and then later we are going to go visit the Spanish steps. Full days here since there is so much to see. Tomorrow we're planning on taking a three and a half hour tour of Vatican city, which should leave us in awe from what I've heard. That updates you a bit. I hope that everyone has a fabulous weekend! Stay cool! :)
