We had two days to see the sights in Paris, and I think we did quite well but didn't rush ourselves. The first day we saw Notre Dame, ate crepes along the Seine River, took a nap in one of the many parks, walked alot of streets, and ended with the Eiffel Tower. However, one of our favourite memories wasn't something you'd necessarily find in the tour books. On our walk back from the Eiffel Tower to the Metro, we stopped to listen to 2 guys playing homemade xylophones in a park. It was amazing how melodic and resonant they made these plastic sprite bottles & pieces of wood & foam sound! You could almost feel the island breeze. A great end to our day!
The next day we covered two MASSIVE museums in one swoop - by the end we were quite tired of standing. The Louvre has a monstrous collection - you just have to pick and choose a few things to see. And Mona Lisa looks like, well, Mona Lisa. We mainly focused on sculpture and painting, and Doug had fun trying to recall his art history for my sake. We also tried (quite unsuccessfully, really) to avoid the crowded Da Vinci code tour swarms. But it was worth it! The Modern Art museum had some really imaginative installations and innovative architecture - all the escalators are on the outside to maximize studio space. I think we liked this a bit more, but it had more contemporary work and was less crowded as well. We ended the day with kabobs and packing up for our next country - England!
