thursday morning i awoke as early as possible only to discover that not only did i have a rare hangover, but it was one of my worst ever. after breakfast stini had to leave to go back to clasuthal, i said goodbye and waved in the street till she dissappeared. i miss her already. after packing and watching mtv for a few hours i rode the tram through town to the becks brewery for a 2pm brewery tour. i ws in a poor state to spend a few hours at a brewery and doing tast tests and drinking a few freebies. after the becks breawery tour i went to stinis house to get my bag and go to the trainstation to catch my train to hamburg.
in hamburg i met alex and her boyfirend david at the trainstation and we drove to their place. while unpacking david went to the bus station to pick up an old friend of ours, gilherme. gilherme, from brazil, was also an exchange student at east high at the same time as stini and alex. Gilherme has been living and studying in (milan) italy just like me, and he was coming from marrakech for the last few days of world cup. it was a great co-incedence we both arrived on the same day at alex's and it was a happy 5 year reunion for the 3 of us. while we looked through alexs old east high photos her boyfriend cooked dinner, it was wierd being in germany and looking through pictures of friends and home, during dinner, spahgetti, i discovered that not only was david polish but alex was as well ( i had always assumed she was german) And being polish it meant that like all good polskas, after dinner desert was a bottle of wodka (vodka). i thought, ok, one shot, nope, apparently the polish have a rule, never leave a bottle with any left, so that meant the four of us ended up drinking the whole bottle, about 7-8 shots each during our after dinnner chat that went till 2am. david shared with us some polish drinking stories and customs (for example at 14 his family made him drink a whole bottle of vodka by himself, a polish tradition of sorts) including nastravia (sp? a cheers meaning health). finally after a long catching up and storytelling reunion we went to sleep.
