Together with 3 Canooks, 2 Japaness, 2 Poles, 9 Brits and our driver Mohammid, we jumped in our 4 wheel drive, non airconditioned mini van to start our 3day 2night adventure to the Sahara.
Being the first people on the bus Matt and I thought ourselves smart by positioning ourselves next to an open window (we were to later find out it was like sitting next to a hairdryer on full blast! a mistake that we managed to subtly manouver our way out of for days 2&3!!! Thank goodness!).
From Marrakech, we made our way over the high Atlas Mountains, reaching around 2000feet, stopping for photo ops, and to check out the kasbahs lining the mountain sides.
We made our way to Ait Ben Haddou, one of the best Kasbahs in Morocco and the set of movies such as Gladiator, Jesus of Nazareth and Lawrence of Arabia.
Our van was inundated with kids wanting to act as guides around the kasbah. Matt and I were shown around by an 11yr old boy, who tooks us proudly around his village, pointing out all the important sites.
Next stop was Ouarzazate for lunch. A town which is a base for many film studios and sets.
Next we made our way thru Dades Gorge to our riad for the night.
The landscape was for ever changing throughout the day, from massive mountains, to green oasis', to long flat rocky plains.
Our riad, was at the base of a massive gorge, next to a river, with amazing views from our room window.
After a looksie around, we settled in for the night, being treated to a lovely moroccan dinner, and later to some live entertainment.
