We arrived in Marrakech at 7.30pm, welcomed by a temperature of 38 degrees!!
We made our way through the heat of the customs hall, bartered with a few taxi drivers (who were arguing over who was going to take us), and after a bit of a hair raising ride we arrived at our hotel, located just outside the medina wall.
The next morning, we walked along the outside of the medina walls, ducking and diving the thousands of kamekazi swallows that seemed to be playing tag with each other and made our way to the Djemma Al Fina (the main square). Here we jumped aboard a hop on hop off sightseeing bus that took us around all the main sights of Marrakech including the many minarets (mosque towers), palaces, palace gardens and our first glimpse of CAMELS.
We jumped off at the main square once we had done the full loop and then went and booked our 3day/2night tour with Sahara Expeditions leaving the next morning.
We decided to have a better look around Djemma el fina and souqs (markets), these resulted in us literally running away from snake chalmers who were running after us with their snakes in hand!!! Avoiding henna wielding women and over zealous stall owners (all loads of fun).
As a reward for keeping our sanity through it all we bought the best tasting freshly squeezed orange juice ever!! and at 3 dirham (about 10p) a real steal!!!
We sat up in a cafe over looking the square for a while, watching the maddness taking place below, and then went back to the hotel in time to watch the Football world cup final.
Now there is something that neither of us ever thought that we would be doing!! Watching FOOTBALL!!!hahahaha! and in Morocco of all places!
That night, after the football, we went to a beautiful restaraunt on the edge of the square. We were treated to the most amazing 5 course meal, live traditional music, and belly dancing. A perfect ending to a awesomely hectic day!
