Hey all...I miss you,
Prague is a beautiful City and I feel like it looks the same as it did 300 plus years ago.
Today I wandered around and ended up in the Jewish Quarters of the town. Rick steve´s says this is the most well preserved, best displayed Jewish area in Europe. I walked through synagogues, cemetaries, artwork, and memorials. It was beautiful in it´s own sort of way.
The thing that stood out the most was a large display of children´s artwork. When the Jews were cramped into their Ghetto, aware of their situation, a group of elders decided education of their children was vital for thier people.
They used what little resources they had left to hire professional teachers to teach tradition, ethics, religion, etc. Adults even suffered from poorer conditions to board the children in the best accomodations they had available.
They hired a famous artist to teach the children to draw as a form of proper self expression and coping. The display had hundreds of drawings and sketches for nine, ten, and eleven year olds. All the quality of work I would expect from the age, but so well preserved for being sixty some years old. Two things I noticed from the drawings. 1. They showed a mature understanding of their condtions and position. How fast those poor children had to grow up! 2. All of the artists died in Auswitchz or Terezin in 1942 or 1943. I wish I could have ¨picture stolen¨ this for you, but it just did not feel right.
There is so much more to talk about, but computer problems happened and this is the second time I have written this blog. The first time was better.
Pictures will come later.
We are off to Munich for a day then Gimmiwald(google it). We will hike swiss mtns by day and enjoy wood heated hot tubs by night.
See the guestbook for a suprise.
