Scotland Trip Begins
Ashley and I hit the train station to board our train around 4 to go to Stanstead Airport in London. Where you have to PAY TO PEE!!! Yep, 20pence to pee... We stayed in a Days Inn 10 minutes away from the airport, and i think i am in love with their beds! hehe! Best sleep i've had in a long time! It was soooooo comfy i didn't want to get up at 3am to get ready! Okay, i didn't want to get up at 3 am because it was 3am, however, you gotta do what ya gotta do! So we headed to Stanstead and boarded our plane. I luckily grabbed a window seat so i got to see the cool aspect of flying! It was awesome watching things get smaller and smaller and then the lines of properties and then being above the clouds was pretty cool as well. The plane ride was only an hour which felt shorter cause i had a little nap! Scotland is beautiful! Very green and beautiful! We had to catch a train to the Glascow Central Trainstation where we didn't realize we had to walk to the Queen St station to catch our next train and we couldn't figure out why our train wasn't coming up on the boards, luckily a guy who had a very strong Scottish accent must have noticed how confused we looked helped us out and pointed out to us that we needed to go to the other station.... with 15 minutes until our train left.... So we ran and luckily made it in time! An hour later we arrived in Edinburgh! First thing we did was wander up the street to figure out where exactly we were, and then we hopped on a tour bus and took in the sights, getting off at the Dynamic Earth center which was pretty cool - kinda like a museum about the earth, and then we headed to the Edinburgh Castle, which was also very cool! It's really high above the town so when you are up there you can see all over and it's beautiful! After the castle we we went to the Scotch Whiskey Heritage Center, which we got a free shot - EW! and learned the way they make it and the types and stuff... After this we decided to try and figure out where our hotel was..... which turned into a journey in itself! Everyone we asked did not know where this place was, so we of course got a tad worried! So finally we figured out that there was two road that are similar Hollyrood Road and Holyrood Park Road... we were on Hollyrood Park, which was WAYYYYY down away from the city center, so we hiked the way we figured out how to get there which turned out to be the insanely long way to get there, up a massive hill and it took about 45 minutes if not longer to get to the university residence we were staying at, which was really nice! we scored a free supper! and then pretty much crashed! Sunday we were up around 8:30 - nice to sleep in! and then headed out to breakfast - free again!! and then walked the 20 minute walk to the city center. We stopped at the Scotland Museum which was okay, but a lot of replication to what we had seen at other museums in england as well as at the castle, so we didn't stay very long. We had subway for lunch which was heavenly! And then headed up to go see the Lochness 3D adventure which was as close to getting to the Lochness as we could. It was neat, but not as exciting as i was hoping, gave the basics on the myth and research they have done to determine whether or not the lochness monster exists or not. After that we went to see the Edinburgh Dungeon which we thought would be cool, however definately not worth the £10 we paid for. oh well, by the time that finished it was about an hour and a half until our train left so we wandered around the streets and in the mall that was connected to the train station. We hopped on the train around 5 and headed to Glascow where we were staying for the night. we walked to that, by this time my feet and back were screaming at me (my backpack must have weighed 20lbs) and i was sooo tired. We of course couldn't find it either, but luckily our navigational instincts popped out and we found it not too long after. The hotel was nice on the outside, however, our sheets and blankets/towels had not been changed, our toilet seat was broken and on the floor.... so downstairs we went to get new sheets and such... other than that it was great! ha! We were up Sunday morning at 4am to catch our train at 6, and then we headed to the airport. We were very lucky to have great weather, it was hot and carrying the heavy backpack sucked, but it was great to see Scotland, wish i had more time to see the rest of it!
