Hey all! Here's what you missed.
I was in Venice for the World Cup Final Game. It was amazing. We made it to a big park with lots of bars set up in tents and TV's all over. We were able to watc hthe second half of the game. It was wild. Fans were blowing their airhorns and waving flags just for cleared balls. Imagine how wild it was when they tied the game, when Zidane got a red card, and when they won. I had a blast, just look at the pictures.
Venice was nice. For the popularity and size, it was extremely clean. We wandered(as instructed by several guide books), fed pidgeons, and looked at churches. Native Americans are a big novelty in Europe and we enjoyed the tunes of some street performing "Indian Music". It was all very nice.
Salzburg(Sound of Music Town, Mozart's birthplace) was gorgeous. We stayed in a camper set in the ground at a campground nearby town. We have discovered the "rick steve's self guided tours" in my guidebook. They are amazing, and the Salzburg one showed us and explained everything we wanted to know. As Drew Followed me, I raised the guidebook above my head and pretended to be an actual tour guide. It probably looked very funny. We saw the town, saw some sound of music sites, and also hiked a Mountain. It was a steep hike, but look at the pics....it was worth it. Yea, we pretty much dominated Salzburg(on a budget)
Next we quickly did Vienna. We toured the Hapsburgs Palace, learned about the Hapsburg Empire, enjoyed all the Music in the City, and wathced "The Fly"(1986) in the Park. It was a lot of fun, and everything was very expensive. It's humbling to think about all the great things, and incredible history these places have. I wish I had more to say about it.
We are now in Prague. It is beautiful because nothing was destroyed by the bomb. The town in catered to tourists. We did a walking tour of the city today and will go visit more indepth the next few days.
We are staying at a dorm style hostel. The picture is a very small and poor representation of what all the halls look like. There are 36 beds in our room on the 5th floor. It is a great opportunity to meet people. You have to see it to completely understand it, but I met a guy today who has been in Prague 3 days and not even seen the Old town(you get the idea) Prague is cheap and we are enjoying that.
I wish I had a funny story to tell. One will come, so that I won't have to catch up and just tell you briefly what I did. I apologize for that.
I have so many good pix, it's ridiculous. DId I mention Drew got Picture of the Week? It's great because that has been a running joke for us the whole trip. Go congratulate him on his guestbook.
