Our drive to Queenstown was great. We stopped along the way and say some beautiful waterfalls and spent the afternoon by the lake in Wanaka. Wanaka is a smaller, quieter version of Queenstown. It is set on a lake which, like most lakes here, is framed by the mountians. It was a beautiful day so our picnic lunch turned into a full afternoon by the lake. Our journey to Queenstown left me with a very big decision -- to bungy or not to bungy, that was the question! I had planned on bungy jumping before I even left on my trip, but as Queenstown approached, my nerves set in. It did not help that when we were in Taupo, I was at an internet shop when a couple came in with bandages on their faces and I overheard them telling their friend they had gotten in a bungy jumping accident! They had just come from the hospital and were not happy -- at all. But, I kept hearing my cousin Andrew's voice in my head -- "there has never been a bungy jumping injury in Queenstown." I still did not know the answer when we arrived, but as we were at the tourism center booking other activities, I decided I would really regret it if I left here without diving off a bridge (sounds great, huh?). So, after confirming the wisdom of my dear cousin (that there have been no injuries in the history of Q'town bungy jumping), I booked my jump for the next morning.
Cathy, Nghi and I went out for a nice dinner (by backpacker's standards anyway) and had some wine to ensure that my possible last supper was a good one.
