All My People,
My welcome to Jamaica was a long and tired one. After leaving New York at 6am to fly to Miami to be told our plane was over booked and they had changed the plane from the 747 to an Airbus (apparently a smaller plane) and that I would have to stand in a queue and see if I could be checked on to the flight, after already checking in, clearing security, sitting in the departure gate waiting to board for 30 minutes, I was beginning to think that I would never make it to Jamaica let alone my connecting flight to Montego Bay.
So then after waiting 40 more minutes and watching my departure time pass me by, I was given the all clear to board. About 100 people didn’t make it onto that American Airlines flight and there were a lot of arguments and people being rude to each other. I have never been so please to get on a plane ever – as I left I heard the assistants talking about flying tomorrow.
The flight to Kingston, Jamaica from Miami is not a very long one but remember I had left NYC at 6am for Miami, this was my second flight of the day and I still have one more to go!!! So my patience low and I was very tired. So when we took off had a rough flight the whole was I could of cried.
Finally arriving in Kingston, Jamaica, we was then told the we have to go through immigration and collect our bags and then check back in for the 17 minute flight to Montego Bay. Now I love the Caribbean, but why does it take them so long to do anything there? Immigration was the longest process ever!! At the same time as the immigration clerk trying to ask me out on date!!
Finally checking in for the flight for Montego Bay on BWIA was a lot easier, but today wasn’t going to smooth so I knew we had more in store!!! So said so done the flight to Montego Bay was delayed and the Kingston airport air conditioning system was broken – so it was so hot!
Tracy and I did the short 17 minutes flight, and short cab ride to our hotel Sunset Beach & Spa, Montego Bay. The weather was nice so we started to enjoy the fact that we have made it on one piece and was very much looking forward to soaking up Jamaica had to offer!
So we arrive and go to check it…yes you don’t think that was going to be easy did you? No…the have no reservation!!! We have a confirmation, they had a reservation, but it was cancelled. But the assistant Heidi kept us waiting 15 minutes before she came out to tell us, and being a Sunday she couldn’t call the UK to check to booking. Fortunately they had room for us, so we could sort this out on Monday.
Monday – the sunshine is out and we had a relaxation day of doing nothing as the traveling had knocked us out…. So tomorrow we would start out exploration of Jamaica, right. Wrong…Tuesday = wash out, thunder, lightening for the whole day, thank god for the cable TV, BET awards and the World Cup.
Determined not to let another day go to waste we went out on a trip the next day to Dunn’s River Falls. For more info on Dunn’s River check the link (http://www.dunnsriverja.com/)
Tracy and I climbed the whole of the falls in our group and have a DVD to prove it. I will load it onto my, my space page (http://www.myspace.com/avantgardestyle) so you can watch it if you want to. Also I have pictures but they are on a water camera that needs developing. Ill update as soon as.
So I couldn’t tell you much more about Jamaica then Dunn’s River Falls as with it thundering all day everyday...we didn't get to do a lot. Dunn’s was the highlight. I did take a few pictures - enjoy.
