Today we got up fairly early in order in order to meet Chris, Jeanette's friend who works for the ministry of housing NHA. We hopped on a maxi-cab in Chaguanas and sped off to a junction to meet Chris. Then it was off to Sangre Grande, where chris and his co-workers are currently working on relocating and providing infrastructure to a community of squatters. The situation is quite prickly because, in order to build various waterlines homes must be torn down. NHA seems to work to improve the sanitary conditions of those that can't be moved and politically, its bogged because the squatters represent a fundamental voting block. Trinidad is lovely, the people are warm and friendly, the food spicy but scrumptious. Yesterday we went to a housing development in Couva, where we barbecued and then i played futbol barefooted w/ a slew of children.
Everywhere in Trinidad there seems to be construction and development. More to come...
