Hey Everyone! Well we arrived in Cairo after a long night of transportation chaos... A frusterating ferry, and overnight mosquito filled bus ride later we made it to Cairo. We're staying at an Anglican guesthouse here and it's SO nice! Well... I do have to say that I will never take another clean bathroom for granted again! It's amazing to be in a place where we can do ministry during the day and then come back and relax...
While we were in Cairo we got to do a variety of things. There were of course the prayer walks, which were pretty amazing along the Nile River, which is just a few blocks away. One night we took a boat out on the river and had a worship time which was pretty cool. We've walked through the city praying a few times, and some of us were invited into little perfume shops for tea and we were able to talk to the shop owners for awhile. We visited the cave churches just on the other side of trash city which is a really intense slum in Cairo. We didn't go into trash city, just passed through on the way to the cave churches. But while we were there we met a team that is doing medical work for three months in trash city and got to talk to them for awhile.
Probably my favorite part of Cairo was visiting the prison. We had two afternoons where we spent a few hours at a prison in Cairo and we would just get to talk with the guys there. They get two visits a month, and some of them used one visit to talk to us. I was able to talk to a few different guys for a few hours, and I'm pretty sure that I was more encouraged by them than they were by me! They just encouraged me in the Lord and asked me if I would send them letters telling them what God is doing in my life and how He's working in the world. I'm so excited to keep these guys updated on the incredible things that God is doing!
All in all I really enjoyed Cairo. Sure the taxi drivers will try and rip you off, and it was quite warm there, but it was a good time. It was a pretty amazing way to end outreach and I'm glad that we came!
