Copán trip- Part 2

After leaving the ruins, we headed up the mountains even more to Karla's aunt's house. There were no more rooms in the hotel, so we had to find another place to stay! Her aunt's house is beautiful! It's way up on the mountain, surrounded by an amazing view, and overloook of the city of Copan. We had such a relaxing time!

The next day, Cesia and I decided we'd try to make a run over to Copan, just the two of us. But we'd slept in and didn't make a decision until around noon, so we hurriedly packed an overnight bag, and ran out the door! We made it back to the bus stations (there are several) in time for the 1:00 buses, but they were all full! Every bus had either already left, or was full! The one bus that hadn't left or wasn't full cost $35 and wouldn't get us there until late, and we'd have to leave really early the next morning to come back. The other buses cost $10 and would've gotten us there about 6, with enough time to walk around sight-seeing and eat dinner before finding a place to crash. Guatemala is technically only about a half hour from Copan, but just the border. We were tyring to get to a nice city like Guatemala City or Antigua. Well, we didn't want to be totally exhausted from just riding in a bus for 2 days, then having to take a bus back from Copan to San Pedro, so we decided to just skip it.

Instead, Cesia and I spent the day at the hotel, swimming in the beautiful pool and relaxing! It was wonderful! I haven't had a chance to relax since....well, probably since Spring Break back in March!! Later we went walking around Copan (like I've said before, everything is very close together!) and shopping and just enjoying not being rushed!! Then we ate dinner at this great restauraunt on the 2nd floor in the open air, and the waitresses carry the plates and drinks on top of their heads! (Check out my pictures of that!) I have NO idea how she carred my huge kebob on top of her head!

Friday, we packed up and headed back into Copan, bought our bus tickets right away back to San Pedro, then toured a couple museums filled with Mayan artifacts. That was pretty cool. Basically, it was stuff you couldn't see at the ruins, like their jewelry, pottery, all that kind of stuff that has to be well protected. Then after lunch, it was time to get back on the bus!

So even though the trip didn't turn out exactly how I'd wanted (not being able to go to Guate), I really had a wonderful time, and now looking back, it was probably for the best! I was able to relax instead of rush around, which is fun sometimes, but I've been rushing around for the past several months, with moving several times, school, getting ready to come here, working here, etc.! Sometimes it's good to just leave your schedule in God's hands! He probably knew it was better for me to just relax and not go to Guate at the time! But I still want to go!!!! :o) We'll see if I can swing it in the next two week!
