Eventually everyone woke up and the 5 of us started cleaning up the party mess. It took about 2 hours until everything was cleaned, vacuumed, mopped, and looking back to normal. We still had enough spirits leftover to throw another party of the same magnitude, which I think might happen before I leave. For breakfast we had hard-boiled eggs, rolls, and leftover Hawaiian toast (all my salsa had been eaten). After lunch we all changed into our swimming clothes and walked to the lake, Nina, Josh, Stini, Maria, and I. at the lake everyone laid around and I braved the cold for a swim. Quite a few people showed up that beautiful Sunday afternoon and I had fun swimming around in the shallows collecting rocks for skipping off the surface of the cool smooth mountain lake.
Monday the 19th we went to the movie theatre to watch x-men 3. Even though I have already seen it, this time I got to watch it in German. The theatre is small but nice. Tickets are only 4 euros and they even sell pints of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream. Popcorn in Germany is not buttery and salty, but sweet like it is coated in sugar, and it goes great with Becks, Bremen’s finest lager. Yes, that is right, they sell beer there to, and I later learned it’s an important part of a German tradition. When watching a move, German audiences hold their beers until the movies main title appears on screen, and then they all pop the tops off their drinks. So when the screen read X-Men 3 the room was filled with the sound of popping beer bottle caps.
On Tuesday the 20th, we watched Germany play Ecuador in their final game of the opening round of action. Again like before the room was packed, even more than last time actually. After the game we had a really good pizza at Da Mario’s then went next door to the movie theatre to watch another movie. This time it was one I had never heard of, “Elementat” a German movie. It was really good, very bizarre and absurd, yet really funny. Since the movie was in German, Christina translated it for me, and I am pretty sure I got all that went on.
On Thursday June 22nd, Nothing special, but I did walk down to Anno Tobak to watch the Italy vs. Czech Republic game. It was good and Italy won, which meant that if the U.S. beat Ghana they could go onto the next round. Unfortunately they lost so that’s it for the states.
