Saturday morning for the first time in a while I actually slept in till noon. After everyone was up we had a pleasant breakfast/lunch of bread, jam, and hot tea. After lunch while everyone re-arranged the living room, hung up posters, and set out decorations, I started making my secret dip I invented the night before:
Hawaiian Salsa 1 pineapple 3 bell peppers (use a green, red, and orange for color) 2 hot chile peppers (or jalapeños will work) 1 jug orange juice 1 small onion 1 bundle cilantro 2 kiwis salt
first I sliced up the pineapple into eatable chunks, then I sliced up the onion, bell peppers, and kiwis into small diced pieces. Add all of this to a big bowl to allow the flavours to mix. Then dice up the chile peppers as small as possible, and add them in. taste it, good huh, maybe throw in a little salt. Then open the orange juice, pour some in, taste, pour more; don’t drown it though, but have the bottom inch or so of the bowl all juice. Remember its salsa not soup so add oj accordingly. Now add a little more salt and refrigerate. Serve chilled with tortilla chips.
While my no-longer-a-secret salsa was chilling, Maria and I took 2 pairs of scissors and ran across the street and cut some purple and while flowers off some bushes and decorated the foot table with them. The food list included Hawaiian toast (toast, sliced ham, pineapple, topped with cheese then baked, good!), sliced watermelon, gummy bears, nuts, my salsa, and sliced kiwis with bell peppers. Around 7 Jan came over with a hard drive full of music for me to copy, and many more people began to show up. By 8 the party was underway. I met all of stini’s friends and posed for pictures and forced everyone to try my salsa. In stini’s apartment she has a wall where they hang pictures of all their friends so I got my picture taken. It was somewhere at this point where I got my German nickname: “Suße Lippen” meaning “Sweet Lips!” Everyone immediately loved it and now that what a lot of the people around here call me. Some of the other guys, Jan and Miguel (from Columbia) started mixing up drinks in the kitchen, and passing them out. When David arrived he brought his new girlfriend Ellen, and she and Stini changed into their Hawaiian outfits. Each had on a flower bikini and grass skirts and wore flowers and lai’s. When stini’s sister Nina arrived the night before she had a coconut bra she brought that I suddenly remembered and ran and got it and passed it around the party. I think Jan wore it most of the night, crazy guy! At 9 pm the United States football game versus Italy started, unfortunately Stini doesn’t have a TV but some of the guys used their cell phones to keep track of the game. Eventually the US with 9 players to Italy’s 10 were able to tie 1-1. Anyways the parts was great, we all danced in the living room and talked. Maria had a pair of highway patrol man sun glasses I stole and wore the rest of the night (in Germany they call highway patrol glasses porn glasses. Ha, “Sweet Lips” was wearing porn glasses!). Overall I had a great time and about 3 am I got tired and passed out on the couch, people were still there and some of the guys apparently wanted to write on my face with a magic marker but Stini thankfully wouldn’t let them. At around 5 am I think the last guest left, and by that time the sun had already been up for 30 minutes (the sun sets around 11:30 and rises around 4:30 here in clausthal! It’s crazy and I makes it tough for me to sleep in)
