About two weeks ago I came across an online article about a Canadian Missionary kidnapped in Haiti. About half way through the article my heart stopped. I had just read a paragraph which said the kidnapped missionary had his arm amputated in December after he was shot. I quickly scrolled back to the top of the article...if his name is Ed I KNOW HIM! And sure enough the first two words of the article were Ed Hughs. A man I have met, a man I have worked with, a man who means the world to a lot of children in Haiti.
How does this make me feel? It makes me want to go to Haiti even more. This kidnapping is just another cry for help. This country, these people, need help. These children need role models. They need to know that violence should not be a part of everyday living. They need a loving environment, a good education and structure. They need to see the light. They need someone to love them unconditionally.
Ed has been released, and is now back in Canada. I'm leaving on August 19th. Am I scared? Yes! but there is no where else I would rather be.
