Departure

Well, I'm flying out in a few hours; Portland to Tokyo to Bangkok to Kathmandu 33 hours later (with an 11 hour lay-over in the Bangkok International Airport). Portland has been amazing: hot weather, good people, fun adventures, and lots of kind hospitality on the part of my friend Adam and his family. I’m very much looking forward to Nepal. I checked the weather and it sounds like it’s going to be very comfortable over the next week. I’m trying to brace myself for the culture shock that’s certain to come; though it might be easier to deal with since I’m sort of easing into it considering that Portland has been a bit of a culture shock coming from La Grande (I had begun to forget that Oregon is actually a blue state). I’ll try to keep up with journal entries and photos over the next two months . . . but no promises since I’m not sure what the internet situation is going to be like over there. Alright, here I go . . .
