We had a brilliant time in Ireland & had great company with Ed,Brit, Ang & Pinz heading up Team Ireland. We arrived in Dublin on the Friday morning, and wandered around for a bit, just checking out the sights. We did the Guinness Storehouse thing in the afternoon. Pretty good, we were a bit gutted after seeing the Heineken museum in Amsterdam; I thought that was a bit of a token effort - but the Guinness was good. We did the Jameson Distillery tour on the Saturday, which we all thought was tidy too. I've never really been into Whiskey, but I think I've only ever tried Scotch. Irish is heaps easier to drink.
We hired a Zafira on Sunday which (just) fit us all in, and we drove to Cork. Nice to see the real countryside - really green and all.
We arrived in Cork and were just in time to settle in for the Australia/Brazil game. A nice-biting match & a fair effort by the Aussies. We were all getting pretty rowdy when the Aussies had a few shots & also met another aussie in the bar. Shame we couldn't get a score, but I reckon it was good that we shut Brazil down for so long. So it was a good night on Sunday, a nice dinner in the city followed by yet another pub. The local stout, Murphy's was pretty good. We also saw this U2 cover band which put on a good show too and pulled heaps of locals.
So that was almost it really. Half of us went to Blarney Castle on Monday morning, but the other half returned the car (we tried to keep it for the day but it wasn't going to work out). Kate, Pinz & Ange lined up to kiss the Blarney stone - we weren't really sure what it was meant to bring you - but have now found out it is meant to give you the gift of Eloquence! We liked Cork & it was a pity we had so little time there. Lots of nice little laneways with some pretty good cafes and shops.
All the crew enjoyed the trip. We were all a bit tired on the return, but were chatting about the next trip down the track, so that's a good sign.
