New city, no more parties, just time to sleep, eat, and excercise.....i love it! The last few weeks seemed to be a lot of late nights, many drinks, and lots of fun, but pretty much put me out! The next two nights, I stayed in Dresden, a city of 500,000 people located about 3 hours southeast of Berlin near the Czech Republic border. The city has many districts filled with shops, cafes, and bars, as well as an Old Town area with museums, churches, the river, and several bridges. I found my self to really like Dresden with the water, historic buildings, and most of the many districts. This city had a similar feel to Portland without the rain and less people. However, the city seemed to have a lot of homeless people, many abandoned or rubbish buildings, and less people that spoke English. In talking with other travelers and some locals, it was obvious that the eastern german cities still had some catch-up to do with the western ones....
I did some hiking to the south of Dresden in the Saxon Switz National Park. This park is full of rock spires and arches made of sandstone. The hiking trails are lots of fun and the views of the rock formations, nearby river, and surrounding countryside were excellent! However, this area does not compare to the formations found in southwest Utah. Next day, off to Prague to meet my friend Rian!
