This morning the sky is bright blue with huge puffy white cumulous clouds. There is a cool breeze. Everyday I check the sad news on the island of Java. I made a donation at a charity organization here in Bali that was founded for the 2004 Tsunami (Yayasan Bumi Sehat Aceh or www.bumisehatbali.org). There are many families that are still heavily relying on aid especially clean water. Now they are providing aid to the earthquake victims as well. I hope Mt. Merapi does not get added to the mix. A local Bali High School just came to collect donations for the Earthquake on Java. Thanks for the link Kimmy… http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapcf/06/06/indonesia.volcano.ap/index.html
There is also Asian Bird Flu to contend with which is a major problem right now on Java as well as Lombok, the islands on both sides of Bali. I can see how this could be a real problem here as ducks, roosters, chickens, exotic pet birds and wild birds are everywhere running through the rice paddies, living in peoples homes, walking through the streets. The other day I saw a dead chicken just sitting in a basket. I wonder if it really is on Bali and they covered it up? I hope not I can see how it could really get out of control here. I can also see how news of the bird flu would dramatically hurt the tourism. I already met someone who said thier friends did not want to come to Bali for fear of Bird Flu.
