Take a Bath

2006-04-24, London, United Kingdom

Due to some unexpected RDO’s during the week and with some discount bus fares we managed to squeeze in a few days in Bath. We arrived in Bath in England’s south-west, checked into our hostel and decided to take a walking tour around the historic Roman city. After walking for only 2 hours we had done a lap of the town and seen almost everything this beautiful little city had to offer. So we explore a little deeper and visited famous sites such as Bath Abbey, the Roman Bath’s, Jane Austin’s house, a former Royal Palace and several pub’s. Later that evening we saw a light hearted side of Bath in the form of a comedy walk. During which I was singled out and made a spectacle of. Possibly for being an Aussie, possibly for being a girl? Funny stuff according to Roh.

The next day we joined a day tour, first stop; Stonehenge. As we wandered around and marveled at this ancient and mysterious monument, I couldn’t help but wonder… "What idiot would build a highway 200 yards from it?"

There are many theories and opinions as to why and how Stonehenge was built and its significance, but I still couldn’t help thinking “Who the *#!@ would build a #@!*ing highway right next to Stonehenge?!?!”

Then we were off to Avebury Stone Circles. These stones are similar to those of Stonehenge and both from the Bronze Age, although the theory is that they were built well before Stonehenge. Plus this time no highway nearby, just sheep.

The next stop was Lacock, a tiny village which boasts the longest running licenced pub in England (since 1345), where we had an over priced lunch and some watered down ales. The final stop was Castle Comb, a Cotswolds village which stands as it has for the last few centuries. The most modern piece of real estate being built in the late 1700’s, while the oldest dates back close to 1000 years.

Upon return to Bath we had a few pints and a quiet night before leaving the next morning for London in time for Adelle’s farewell party. She’s off to Greek island’s for the summer.

Cheers

Jess
