Sunday morning on April 30th at 4:15 a.m. Michael and I awakened from our blissful wedding ceremony the night before to catch our 6:00 a.m. flight to Jamaica for our honeymoon.
It was a six hour flight, and the airport in Jamaica was not very desirable. We stood in the customs line for about 30 minutes, but it was a fairly painless process. Once we grabbed our luggage and found the Couples Resort station, all else was a breeze!
We tipped the gentlemen who hauled our bags onto the bus for us, and we were on our way to the resort about 55 miles away. The trip was a little bumpy and the other buses honked like crazy at each other! I guess it was their way of acknowledging one another on the road. They were driving on the left side of the road, which really threw off my equilibrium for awhile.
Once we arrived at the resort, they greeted us with champagne and big smiles. We dined in their restaurant for lunch, and when we were finished, our room was ready and awaiting our arrival. We were in room 7310, which was in building 7, floor 3. It was a garden deluxe room with a view of beautiful palm trees overlooking the wedding gazebo with the ocean behind it in the distance. What a view!
We were so worn out from the trip that we dozed off for a few minutes after we arrived. There was a tour for the resort at 5:00 p.m. that evening, so we learned about everything they offered and how to plan for the week. We had a casual dinner in the main restaurant complete with appetizer, salad/soup, entree, dessert, and wine! The live entertainment was wonderful, and we even got up and danced down by the stage at the end of the night.
We walked over to the piano bar after dinner, and I sang two karaoke songs. I introduced myself as a girl from Nashville, which got the crowd cheering rather loudly. The first song was in good Nashville fashion as, "Some days you gotta dance" by the Dixie Chicks.
When I dedicated my second song to "my new husband, Michael," he looked around and realized that I was talking about HIM - he was my HUSBAND now (wow)! I sang "Forever and For Always" by Shania Twain. It was quite a sweet moment.
And that concluded our first evening of our honeymoon in Negril, Jamaica.
