A morning off…

2006-05-25, Cannes, France

Thursday was my morning off of French class. I went to breakfast with Rachael and then when she went to class, I came back up to the room, grabbed my computer and headed down to the Hotel de Ville. I was down there for about an hour using the internet. No one was online because it was like 3 or 4 in the morning at home. I was productive though, so that’s all that really matters.

On my way back, I tried to return a few cds that Rachael had checked out from the Mediatheque. Before I got there though, I ran into Lauren (from class) and Chen, they informed that the Mediatheque was closed. I imagine because of whatever French holiday it was. I talked with them for a little, then they went off to town and I continued back to the college.

My plan was to just sit in the room and work on some stuff, but since the maids hadn’t come yet, and I didn’t want to be in their way, I decided to go out to the sundeck and work out there. While I was sitting out there, a couple of guys came out and began to take pictures of the deck. I think they may have been taking pictures for the school catalogue, or something. It was a little awkward. I wasn’t sure if I should move or if I were in the pictures or what. So I did nothing. A little later, Carrie came out to join me on the deck. I talked with her a little, heard about her internship for the film festival. She’s a bartender. I think that’s kind of funny…

Eventually I came in to put my stuff away before lunch. After lunch was Art History. We reviewed for the final on the following Tuesday. I think people wig out way too much about some of it. I guess it must seem really unreasonable that he expects us to know how to spell… I’m not too worried about it.

After Art I had French Civ. Our last class besides the final. It wasn’t too bad. And Marie-Helen had some nice parting words for us. It’s wonderful that classes are finishing up!

After class, I came back and hung out in the room until 7 when I went down to call my mom. I had a ton of time on my phone card, so we talked for almost an hour! I’m only going to call her one more time before I go home!

I came back and worked on some stuff while Rachael went to the Cyberdrome. Sometime after she came back, we attempted to watch the rest of Chocolat. It was working fine just up until it told us to insert disc 2. Apparently, Samantha didn’t realize she only burned part of the movie onto her disc. It was fairly disappointing because I was really getting into the movie. Johnny Depp hadn’t even shown up yet, sigh. I guess I’ll just have to finish it at home.

I tried to bring the disc back (and see if she had the rest of the movie on another disc or two), but everyone was gone. A lot of people here were working at an AIDS benefit. Apparently a lot of famous people showed up. Perhaps I should have applied, but I ran out of time to write up the letter for it. It’s ok though. I’m glad everyone else got to help out and have a good time doing it.
