Kronborg Castle

Hello everyone,

Had a great breakfast included with my hotel this morning before setting out by train to visit the huge old Kronborg Castle in Helsingor (spelling might by wrong) It is about an hour north from Copenhagen and the train ride runs along the coast so the view of the ocean is real nice. The weather was still cool, some soft rain off and on so I was glad I went to the castle instead of something mainly outside. I used my umbrella here and there while walking about the town though. The castle dates back to the 15th century and it is mainly kept plain and more simple with the interiors simillar to what it would have been back then. There are beautful tapestries, paintings and furnishing most from the 16th and 17th centuries. The tall chests in the rooms are so large. Most of them are 5ft wide and over 7 ft tall. Huge and so intricately made from wood. I explored the underneath of the castle which they call the casements. Tunnels and storage areas everywhere. Quite interesting. Didn't see any that were dungeons though. There is a maritime museum in a large part of the castle and I found that well worth visiting. If you admire scale models of all kinds of ships you would be in heaven there. I took many pictures of the castle and grounds and also bought one post card that shows everything from the air. The city is beautiful. Had a nice meal in a quaint restaurant there. On the train back I visited with some people who were from Toronto but had lived in Saskatoon many years ago. They came to Copenhagen just for the 4 opera's of Wagner that were playing in the new BILLION dollar opera house this week. It is my laundry night at the hotel tonight. I am waiting for the drying to be done. I did stay here one more night and tomorrow I move over to the same hotel as you are in Dad and Beulah. See you then. Well I will close for now. Dan

P.S. It is good to hear from you all. Thanks to everyone for the emails and MSN chat's. I heard that I missed the finals of Survivor. :( Well you can't be around TV much when you are travelling and I don't know if it would have been on here anyway.
