About bloody time...

So Jess finally arrived in the UK about six weeks ago and I must say it’s a massive relief to have her here finally! It had been eight months since I’d seen her after all…

I went out to Heathrow in the early afternoon of the 28/3 to meet her and once we saw one another sparks flew, feet were swept, etc etc, and to both our relief we picked up exactly where we left off. We spent two nights in London before heading to Paris for a weekend of sightseeing and romance (see Paris journal entry for details). Actually there was no romance to speak of as the sights kept us pretty busy and we were too buggered at the end of each day to do anything in the evenings. After three flat out days in Paris we were on our way back to London to look for our own place. We managed to find a suitable abode after a couple of days and a few failed attempts in the inner north suburb of Golders Green. It’s very like Elsternwick in that it’s relatively close to the city and mainly occupied by Hasidic Jews. It’s also the suburb that Curt & co live so I’m pretty familiar with it. Plus it’s right next to Hampstead Heath (London’s biggest nature reserve) which is nice for a stroll or a jog.

So our little studio apartment may be tiny, but it has everything Jess and I need and the rent is pretty reasonable as far as London goes (the same amount in dollars would get a pretty nice apartment in somewhere like St Kilda or South Yarra). We did sign a lease but it’s rented privately and the landlords said that we could leave whenever we want so I’m happy to stay for a couple of months at least. Living together has been challenging, but on the whole everything is hunkey dorey

Jess has been madly looking for work since arrival. She’s pretty keen on nannying work as the money is quite decent. Although we’re not keen in staying in London much longer so I’m quietly hoping she doesn’t fall into a job that pays really well and that she’s especially happy with.

So for now we are trying to decide on where to live, where to work and where to travel for the English summer and beyond.
