Hello from the mountains of Thailand!
I am currently living with over 500 children at a place called Children of the Golden Triangle. They help Akha indian children who are high-risk for the sex slave industry. Education, food, housing and skills for their future are just a little bit of what they provide here. The center is run by a Christian couple who have a great passion for this people group that is slowly being destroyed due to deforestation and unrecognized citizenship. One of the most touching things I've encountered here is their worship. The kids have devotion/worship time early in the morning and right before they go to bed as a large group. When they worship you can really sense their love for God. This is evident in their behavior throughout the day - they play great together, work hard, and care for one another.
My work here has been something I never predicted. The director has a large digital photo library that needs to be organized. This means I'm spending my days working on new Apple computers organizing photos as well as doing a bit of graphic design! Occasionally the loud call of a gecko reminds me of where on earth I actually am. In the mornings and afternoons Ruth and I serve as school bus drivers. In Thailand this translates into driving a manuel pickup truck with the back full of over 30 children, driving on the left side of dirt roads. The day actually begins at 5:30AM, helping the children get up, dressed and to their chores. When I have opportunity I enjoy helping in the kitchen. These 12 year old girls are wonderful chefs! The food here has been delicious. Fresh pineapple and anything authentically Thai are my favorites. When I finally get to bed, I sleep quite well under a cozy mosquito net.
Please keep Elya in your prayers as she has not been feeling well and is seeing a doctor in Bangkok while we are in Northern Thailand. We need her back to health and with the team because she is so fantastic with the children and just simply showing God's love!
Thank you all for praying and supporting us!
