from bond girl to bat girl!! lift to cape trib with 2 irish guys, killian and steve. i was a horizontal passenger...as no back seat! cape trib is the image of paradise; white sandy beaches, swaying palm trees and lush jungle. where 2 world heritage sites meet: tropical jungle and the great barrier reef. wonderful. well almost. the jungle aint called the wet tropicals for no reason and it was stinger season. this meant that it rained non stop for my whole 4 week stay, and one toe in the ocean could kill you! (stinger season or box jelly fish season.) oh and if they don't get you, the crocdiles that love the beach, will!! became a paying volunteer at the fruit bat rehabilitation centre and bat house; a field research station in the middle of cape trib. ran the bat house everyday, hosting tourist talks on fruit bats and giving out rainy day advise. lived in my own cabin and showered up tree house with jungle as shower curtain. became a fruit bats mummy for 2 weeks; rearing bubba, a 4 month old spectacled flying fox orphan. so woke every morning at 6.30am by baby bat screaming for comfort! hard work, hats off to all mum's out their! enough to put you off for life! had a wonderful time despite the rain and know have self harmer arms; bat claws are sharp and have a locking system, for an extra skin tearing grasp! only got a few photo's; more to follow.
