Charades and flying ants

This week has seen the weather really pick up. Although it is still only april it feels like mid july with temperatures of 30'c+. So the classrooms are absolutely boiling nad it is hard to breathe let alone shout. Anyway this week I have been doing revision lessons by just going through all the games I have used to date and ending with a big game of charades. The kids love this especially whewn you take part and make a fool of yourself. Their favourite is when I pretend to blind myself with chalk and crash into the blackboard. This was to demonstrate comedy lol. And in my no6 classes I showed a film as I could not really think of 2 constructive lesson plans. I showed them a comedy/action called 'hollywood homicide' because it is slapstick and this is what they like. Anyway after the class one teacher came up to me and said she liked the film but did not think I should be showing the kids "the sex". She was referring to a kiss!!? Crazy!

Our apartment was infested this week. We left it for 1 hour and came back and it was swarming with flying ants. We had to have a guy come in and drill holes in the floor and walls but I do not think it is really a long term measure. Christine our link teacher was so scared that she got the problem fixed immediately.

This weekend we stayed in Deyang. On saturday we were taken out by about 20 of Barry's students. we went to one of the kids homes, which was really nice and had 5 floors! Afterwards we went to a small getaway type place where we drank tea, played tabletennis and went hiking up the small ridge hills nearby. It was all really good fun.

In the evening we went out drinking with some of my senior 3 friends at the stadium (Carrie, Li Yi, Enoch, Swenko tc). It was a little tense at first as one of the girls was quarreling with her boyfriend but she was a bit of a lightweight and he didnt turn up so it soon became merry. We talked for ages and it was pleasant as it did not involve any energy.

On sunday we went boating with Adam and Nelson. It was boiling hot and as neither of the former were inclined to row me and Barry had to row a couple of kilometers using only sticks. Afterwards we went for lunch and looked around their college. In the afternoon Barry went off with some of his students whilst I went off to chengdu airport to meet one of my schoolmates (Josh) who is travelling around china as a break from his teaching job in NZ. I got the bus to north chengdu and then haggled a taxi down to 80yuan fixed fair to feijichang (airport). The guy was crazy and took me speeding through chengdu at about 80mph. He also took a "short cut", which was via chengdu prison, a forbidding looking place 'say no more' lol. I brought josh back to deyang and we went for dumplings and noodles after looking for a hotel and eventually finding a rather dodgy looking one on the edge of town. We had a lot to catch up on!

Next entry: sport and drinking, they even out
