grrr...I just wrote a whole thing and somehow it was deleted...so here I go again…round 2:
I am in the jungle and it is backpacker’s paradise. it is somewhat ironic that there is an air conditioned internet cafe in the middle of all of these huts...but it´s still a pretty cool place. we are staying in this hut type structure with a tin roof that makes sooo much noise every time something falls on it from the trees above it…which is about every 30 seconds...and an outside bathroom. it´s way chill. there are backpackers everywhere and every night they play drums and fire dance (we were too exhausted last night to check it out...).
So yesterday we left San Cristobal at like 6 in the morning and took the tour from hell. literally. Our bus driver was a complete jerk and we ended up getting sooo sick it was out of this world. There are no words for how awful this trip was. We had heard that the bus ride from San Cristobal to Palenque was supposed to be pretty rough... so we decided to take this tour (which cost way too much!). we never even imagined how horrible the road was going to be. Moe was smart and took some Dramamine before we left but i have never been so car sick in my life. 2 horrible hours later we had our first stop for breakfast and I tried to get off the bus but i turned yellow and practically passed out. This amazing Israeli couple helped me out and gave me sugar and like took my feet and held them above my head...I love Israelis, they are amazing people. They truly understand the idea of looking out for one another...makes me miss Israel... but regardless i am in the jungle and Mexico and it is awesome. so back to my story. After another 2 horrible hours (and lots of dramamine) we finally made it to Agua Azul which are these beautiful waterfalls...but we were too sick to truly appreciate them. an hour and a half later we were back on the bus heading to Misol Ha which is another waterfall (cool but not as cool a Agua Azul) where the bus driver tried to leave without us and then didn´t want to stop to pick us up...grr...did I mention that he was a jerk?!? After another horrible bus ride we made it to the ruins of Palenque and then finally to Palenque itself. We were so exhausted we could hardly move...but we somehow found ourselves to El Panchan which is awesome, and passed out for about 12 hours...
today moe and i went to explore the town of palenque which was cool but not very exciting. and it was HOT. we walked through the market which was awesome because we were the only ¨tourists¨there and it is always really interesting to see how the people of the towns you visit really live. regardless, now we are back in our jungle paradise for a few days longer...and then we´re off to the beach! life´s tough... :)
