Well, I just had my first hot shower after two weeks. Our team just arrived back in South Africa after spending the last two weeks in Maputo, Mozambique at Iris Ministries. It feels good to be able to check the email again. We were pretty much with out internet the whole time we were there.
It is amazing to see all the great things happening at Iris. Iris is a children’s home that takes in orphan kids; giving them education, food and home. There are over 300 boys and 50 girls at this particular base. They are able to offer much hope to children in one of the poorest countries in the world, where the unemployment rate is 80%. Our team was able to work along side the long term missionaries there and also minister with the local pastors and kids. We had some great opportunities to visit communities and ministries happening outside of Iris. They do a great job of reaching out to the surrounding communities with different ministries. We ministered at dump to almost 400 children. These families and children who live there manage to live off what they can find in the rubbish. We had the opportunities to participate in a 24 hour church service were we were able to speak/preach, worship, dance and pray through out the night. Also, had the chance to go into Maputo and participate in some street ministry to the homeless where we were able to conduct a small service and hand out food. But most of the time was spent hanging out with the kids on the base, which was a blast.
It was such an inspiration to worship with the kids at Iris who are so passionate for God and His plans. These kids know and understand hardships and they also know who there God is. He is Faithful, a Provider, a Protector, Loving and Worthy of Praise!
We leave for Kenya tomorrow and will be there for about 2 weeks. First we will be working in a backpacker hostel for a couple days, then moving on to an YWAM base for the rest of the time. We will be doing much of the same time of ministries through out all the countries we visit.
Please keep us in your prayers that we grow as a team and that we our doing “God things and not just good things” and also stay malaria free. Ohh, and on another note…..the only two pants I brought with me have been stolen. I hung my laundry out to dry and when I went to get them in the morning my pants, along with two other person’s pants were gone (and I really liked those pants). So, now I just have a pair of board shorts.
Anyways, to all those who have written me emails…thanks so much! Tifah, Griff, Ben, Ryan W, Aaron and Jesh, Mom keep them coming. I will do my best to reply back when I can. Love you guys.
