Right finally managed to find some time to update my journal and check my mail. The Kiwi Experience is absolutely nuts. I’ve met some amazing people and have just been so busy doing everything under the sun we hardly have time to think before we move on.
Ill start from the day after I left off because basically the day I left was just a travel day where nothing happened at all really apart from me going to the wrong airport in Perth. I needed to go to the domestic not the international but I had time to get a taxi and it was all good in the end.

6th April
Woke up at about midday today feeling awful after the long travel day before. I had a dorm room to myself which was pretty cool. Basically did nothing that day apart from wandering around Auckland which seemed a fairly nice city nothing amazing. That evening I went to the bar connected to the hostel I was staying in. It’s a huge hostel like the biggest in Auckland, ACB backpackers. The Globe bar was pretty cool but it was fairly difficult to start a conversation with complete strangers, until I had a few pints. I went to bed pretty late that day.

7th
Woke up to find that there was another bloke in my dorm. Turns out he’s from London which was pretty cool and after a while we decided to go track down some breakfast. After that we went to a cheap clothes outlet store because NZ is definitely more along the lines of British weather e.g. cold and wet. I got some good bargains on a hoody and some t-shirts. Also bought a NZ sim card for my phone so my new NZ number is 02102700228. We went out drinking again that night and I booked the Kiwi Experience bus for the next day.

8th
Had to get up fairly early and pack. Said goodbye to Russle and managed to stumble across the bus. Got on it feeling like warm death and basically slept until we got to are first stopping point. A very old crater looking over Auckland the weird thing about it being its covered in cows that graze all over it. After that we went onto a beach called Cathedral cove. It’s a long walk down to the beach but when you get there its amazing reminded me so much of the beaches in Thailand with huge caves and cliffs surrounding a prefect sandy beach. We then went onto a fishing village that was a fair drive away and stayed in a nice small Hostel called Turtle Cove. That day I made a bone carving necklace. I’m really proud of it loads of shaping and sanding involved but it looks great.
I made a lot of new friends that night playing pool in the hostel and three of them ive stuck with till now while I’m writing this in Wellington on the 15th. Seems like everyone is from Britain basically on our bus lots of Irish and English and a few Scots.

9th An early
Left the fishing village pretty early to head to this pretty little beach to chill out and have breakfast which consisted of a sausage roll and some orange juice. We then drove onto Harangahaki Gorge. Here there are loads of walks through old abandoned mine shafts that are pitch black. Amazing scenery all around was stunning. After that we did a 9m cliff jump into a river. I didn’t do it because it was freezing. But one of the guys who did called Matt slipped on the run up and fell over the edge only just missing the rocks. It was a very scary moment indeed. He survived with only some bad scratches and a swollen/bruised arm. He was SO lucky! We then headed onto Roturua where all the geo thermal activity is. On the way we stopped at Hobbiton (a renamed village very close to where LOTR was filmed) but didn’t see any of the set or anything. At Roturua we did an evening entertainment out of the village called the Maori Experience. Basically you are taken to a traditional Maori village (Mauoris are the local people of NZ). Here you are greeted with a war dance and shown all there traditional beliefs etc. You also have a meal cooked in the ground using hot rocks. The whole thing was absolutely stunning and mind-blowing I had an amazing time but was so angry that I left my camera behind.

Anyways I’m running out of time on this internet that costs WAY to much. Unfortunately it wont let me load up my photos so you will just have to wait. I hope everyone is well and having a good time. Speak to you all soon.
