Up at 6 I packed my bag for a day trip and took the metro to Omonia square to catch the 51 bus to the bus station. At the bus station I discovered the guide book was no longer up to date, and that the 7:30 bus to Delphi was now located at bus station B. I hailed a cabby who spoke no English other than to offer me a smoke. Finally I was able to communicate to him what I wanted. I made the bus station with 5 minutes to spare. On the bus I discovered 4 other classmates. The 3 hour trip to Delphi is beautiful, through hills and fields. In Delphi I was finally able to eat some breakfast on my way to the ruins. The ruins are located on the edge of where two mountains meet, over-looking a grand and deep valley. To my pleasant surprise on this partly cloudy but intensely blue sky day, a type of yellow wild flower was in full bloom and was in great abundance in and around the ruins, fields, and mountains. For about 3 hours I slowly made my way up the mountain, winding my way through the ruins of monuments, temples, and treasuries. When I arrived at the arena at the top of the ruins ¾ of the way up the mountain I sat on the ancient seats under a shade tree and just relaxed. I filled out my journal while listening to the low hum of hundreds of thousands of bees that were busy going from flower to flower, and I watched a mountain goat high up on the mountain leap from rock to rock. I was very much at peace. After an hour, I felt a few sprinkles on my arm as the clouds overheard darkened. Putting on my raincoat I went down the hill to the Delphi museum and saw some good stuff. Back in the town I bought a few inappropriate postcards for family and friends and filled them out while waiting for the 16:00 bus back to Athens. In Athens I got completely lost (an easy thing to do) while trying to find a metro home. Back at the hostel I sat in the bar and continued work on a series of 6 perspectives due the day I get back to Italy. Later, at midnight, bed was a welcoming and friendly thing.
