Whatever you are doing right now, please stop it. And pick up the nearest phone. That's right. Now dial the number of your favourite airline and book a seat to Cambodia. Tomorrow. Because it is great.

Having spent just a few days in one of the country's western towns, we have found the people, the food, the beach (and the price of it all) most agreeable.

It might not have incredible luxury, but you can get a decent room for five dollars, a dinner for two dollars and a beer for 50 cents - the national brewery is based here. And if you like that, consider a daily choice of hitting a white sand beach, go on a snorkelling cruise or head to a jungle waterfall. We could probably spend awhile here - if only we had the time.

We left Thailand on Saturday morning, walking across the border to a place called Koh Kong where there was a passenger speedboat heading to Sihanoukville - Cambodia's leading beach resort.

Since then we have spent the last few days in blissful relaxation. The people, who only 25 years ago were subject to a brutal government regime which killed one in five of the population, are poor but always have a smile, and many of them can speak English.

There scores of children walking the beaches selling bracelets and jewellery, but instead of encouraging child labour, Gemma has taken it upon herself to give english lessons to any who might hang around long enough. Andy has been building sandcastles with them instead.

We also visited a school and talked to a teacher who told us that there were problems with behaviour in class. One Cambodian teenager even brought a machete into school recently and chopped off his classmates' hand. Nice.

We are heading into the nearby Ream National Park tomorrow for trekking, swimming under a waterfall and snorkelling. And then we are off to the capital Phnom Penh at the weekend, visiting the famous killing fields. Incredible stuff.
