4 Total Hours left of School before BREAK!

2006-03-27, Aberystwyth, United Kingdom

Only one more week left of classes before we start the awesome and amazing three week spring break! Heck yeah! I’m looking forward to it so much that I can really barely contain myself. March 31st-April 23rd of no classes and tons of travel.

Recap of the week though. Monday was another typical Monday. Went to class and was bored, as usual. Jo, my female sports and exercise professor has told me that I participate an over abundance and she wishes some of her other students had my drive. I don’t have a drive though, which is funny to me. I’m in Wales and sometimes all there is to do is read textbooks or look over notes, so I don’t consider that drive, I consider that trying to not be bored. Oh well, atleast when it comes to participation in her class I’ve got it down. After class I met up with Jen at Co-op and picked up some groceries for dinner. Jen and I then went on a massive cleaning spree and cleaned the whole downstairs, kitchen, bathroom, everything. I felt really productive after that, and then proceeded to destroy the cleanliness by cooking a dinner for Bret, Kim, Darren, Jen, and I. I made rice meatballs in the tomato sauce, along with homemade mashed potatoes, and corn. Kim brought along some soda, Bret brought an apple dessert and ice cream, and Darren brought some wine and two cheesecakes. We ate a lot of food over a long span of time and I’m pretty sure all of us felt like our stomachs had expanded greatly after such a meal. After such a food binge it was time to keep working on my lab report, however the internet went out. So, Jen and I walked to Melissa’s place so I could 1) get a floppy disk and 2) meet Melissa’s mom who was in Wales visiting for the week. Melissa’s mom is so darn cute and it’s almost scary how alike they are. It was so nice to meet her and we had made plans for dinner the following day as well.

Tuesday I had major sleep issues where I just couldn’t fall asleep until 7am, so when the alarm went off at noon I was pretty disappointed. The floppy disk didn’t work and I was unable to get my lab report off my laptop to turn in. I was pretty angry about that, but luckily Jo was very nice and let me turn it in the following day. I suppose it’s good that I’ve created these relationships with professors here. The hope is to have one of them write me a recommendation to use for Grad schools. After the lab fiasco, Jen and I went into town and did a little shopping. We both had stuff to pick up for various occasions and meandered around town until we were to meet up with Melissa and her mom at the Varsity. We met them there and had a fabulous dinner. Melissa’s mom was so considerate and treated us all to dinner. We ate soooo much food that once again my stomach was not sure what was going on. We got a southern fried chicken strips bucket to start with, then I had scampi, beans, and chips (fries), and THEN we also got the Cadbury dessert, which consisted of three bowls of melted Cadbury chocolate (white, Bourneville, and Dairy Milk) with chips, pears, strawberries, marshmallows, donuts, and bananas to dip into them. Talk about heaven. It was so good that the rest of the night I spent in a food coma. Overall, I love Mama Brackley and I hope to see her again (maybe a trip to Wyoming?) 

Wednesday was spent emerging from said food coma and having to drag myself to volleyball practice. Not many people showed up and I was actually the only girl, so it was a lot of fun. Joey and I practiced beach doubles because we think we are going to compete in a beach tournament at the end of May. We’ll see, but I really like playing doubles with him. Somehow we are good at reading each other, so it works out very well. The rest of Wednesday was spent pretty much hanging out, went over to Penbryn and hung out with Darren and some of his friends, and then proceeded to watch Platoon with Bret and Kim following that. Good day.

Thursday I went to classes and worked on trying to get my group together for my Management project. We haven’t even started it, and even though it is due at the end of May, we need to get crackin. So, I spent a good chunk of the afternoon emailing and scheduling meetings with my fellow group members and professor to make sure we get it all done. After that Jen and I made Stromboli and then I waited patiently for Melissa White to finally arrive. It was so great to see her again since we haven’t talked all the much since High school. She got here around 8pm and I made us some dinner and we just hung out with Jen and watched a movie for the night since she was quite tired from the bus ride and I had class in the morning.

Friday I struggled to go to class, but managed to handle it. When I got back from class Melissa and I walked into town. We went to the seafront so she could check out our beach and sweet seagulls. We then went to the castle, which I had never actually been to. It’s actually castle ruins, but I think it is soooo awesome. It leaves your mind to imagine what it used to be like and it’s so cool. We wandered around the ruins and whatnot before heading back into town. We then hit up the Welsh shop and then just sat in town square chillin and people watching. It was quite funny. We then headed to the store and then back home so I could make some dinner for us. I made fettucini alfredo again and as always it was great. After that we met up with some friends in town again at Downies, a local pub, and after Downies we went to Flirt at the Union. Overall, it was a good time and we danced a lot as well.

Saturday we slept in and around 12:30 we made French Toast for Darren, Bret, Kim, Melissa White, and myself. It was a good time and I’m glad Melissa got to meet some of the friends I’ve made here thus far. We laughed a lot (Aunt Jemima?) and had a good time. The rest of the day it was pretty rainy so Melissa and I watched a movie and hung out mostly. We then met up with Kyle, Darren, Bret, Kim, and Melissa B. at Cwrt Mawr Bar since it was close and we all just wanted to have a casual night. So we hung out there, watched some TV (which we don’t do at all here), had some laughs, and a few played darts. It was a nice relaxing night and we definitely hit up Nosh Da for some late night food (pizzas, chips and cheese, and fish definitely make great snacks).

Sunday was a roller coaster of a day. Melissa and I went to bed REALLY late and then when we got up for her to catch her bus at 7:30am we didn’t realize that here the time change happens on March 26th, unlike home. So, she missed her bus, but we were able to find a train to get her back home at 12:30, so she did that. I had a good time with her here and am glad she was able to come and visit. After she left I managed to take a much needed nap and then went over to Melissa’s for a little while watching Firefly. I then came home, made some dinner, and then had Darren, Bret, Kim, and Melissa over to watched the first episode of Firefly. Darren, Bret, and Kim had never seen it before so Melissa and I decided to create some more addicts. After the first episode (which is actually two episodes in length) and one other episode everyone left and headed to their respective homes. Another relax day in Aberystwyth and a good nights sleep was in store.

And that brings us to today. Today Melissa and I went on a long walk. We went down to town, to the seafront, to the castle again, and then to the Harbor. We then decided to hit up a health food store in town and started thinking of food ideas for our backpacking trip next week. After that we decided to stop in a café and definitely ate some Chocolate fudge cake with ice cream and tea. It was soooo good, and we had walked almost 2.5 miles already before we did it, so I can justify it. It was a nice long walk, probably almost 3.5 miles total and we braved the weather.

Everything else is looking great and I can’t wait for break to start soon. I love and miss you all. Take care and check out the newly added pictures!
