Friday morning after breakfast we took a tour of Verona. We walked around the Arena, an old roman coloseum that is the 3rd largest in the world and in the best condition; so much so that they still use it for concerts. We went and saw the backside of a bank that was designed by Scarpa, walked through the very beautiful Verona Town Center (its the city of lovers, hence romeo and juliet), and walked past the romeo and juliet house (some of the guys rubbed the juliet statues right breast, supposedly for luck in love). Our tour ended at the castle vechio, now a museum of antiquities that was completly renovated, again by the Venitian architect carlos scarpa. After examining the design of the displays i grabbed some lunch and found and internet place. Back at the hotel i lugged my bags down to the trainstation facing a night sleeping in the milan malpensa airport. at the station i took one last chance bought a phone card and called a hostel, LUCK! They had room for the night. I hoofed it over to the hostel and checked in, but i had 3 hours till they would let me put my bags in the room, so i sat out in the garden next to a fountain and read. The hostel was built 500 years ago and was a monastery, so it is large with several buildings, large walls, and a gorgeous garden with paths and palm trees and even a big fountain. All for 14 euro a night! At one point while reading i met a guy from slovenia who stuttured (ironic huh?). At about the time i could take my stuff to my room, i saw some of my class mates checking in, drats, there went the neighborhood (i dont think i have told you all this yet, but i never travel with others, on class trips as soon as the class tour is over, i go my own way, and on weekends, i usually travel by myself, other than monaco and nice, but that was with people i actually like. for the most parts i find some of my classmates to be boring and a real drag. the best part about traveling everywhere by myself is that the company is so much better!) Anyways i said the obligatory hello to my mates and checked into my room and hit the hay.
