On Venice (day three)

2006-03-15, Venice, Italy

Wednesday i slept in a bit, then got up around 9 and headed to venice. i went and saw the exellent art collection at the accademia, where my favorite piece was "the Miracle of the Bronze Serpent." Then i went back to st. marks because i knew that the other art musuem would be open late. St. Marks was pretty sweet, very richely decorated in the Byzantine style, but the floor was the best. It was richly inlaid mosaics of complex designs, but because of the poor Venitian soil the floor waves up and down, as much as 1 foot! Up in the gallery i went out on top of the front porch overlooking the piazza, kicked off my shoes and sat in the sun for an hour. Back over near the accademia i went to the peggy guggenhiem museum and checked out a bunch of famous modern art. Not my favorite but at least its not more madonnas. Back again at st. marks piazza, but this time for the sunset, i took some pictures of the suns fading light of the front of the churchs gold mosaics. At sundown i hopped on the boat back to lido, grabbed dinner, and went back to my room to draw, again my room was the pary room, and at about 10 a few of us went for a walk along the ocean. I borught my tripod because i knew i wanted some long exposure photos of the boardwalk, beach, and full moon. Good stuff.
