A visit to the elephant orphanage. The elephants are really interesting to look at close up. It was a lovely sunny day and we had a great time. The only thing is that a man came up to us and said that a visit to the herb garden was included in the price. Well it wasn't exactly. He showed us round the herb garden and insisted on putting some white cream on the back of my hand to demonstrate the removal of hair from skin. He insisted that everything was natural, but then again so is arsenic! It certainly removed the hair but I am worried about any long-term allergies. Apparently Sri Lankan women use the stuff to remove all body hair. Then he showed a full variety of remedies and we ended up both getting another massage. Tip avoid herb gardens; they are massage parlours in disguise! Watching the baby elephants being fed was fun. We feel a great debt of gratitude to our hosts. The apartment has spectacular views and the room is uncluttered and simply furnished.
