Picture this: You find yourself in a large room with techno so loud it overcomes you. Every beat resonating in you like an internal metronome, telling you when to speed up or slow down. You say to yourself, "Speed up or slow down? Isn't this a club?" No...it's Swedish Spinning. You look around, yet the only light in the room is on the instructor, decked out in clothes that would be perfectly at home on a professional cyclist, constantly proding and encouraging every last bit of energy out of you. Dim lighting in the rest of the room takes away any chance of being distracted by the huge group of people surrounding you. Each furiously peddaling as if being chased by something horrible. So, in an unconsious decision you do the same, pedal, pedal harder, faster... faster. Forty-five minutes later you find yourself drenched in sweat, the music is turned down, and transitions into a more peaceful, melodic music. Even though you've stopped pedalling, your heart is still racing. The instructor starts talking, his voice now calm, cool, and collected, hardly like it was minutes ago. He leads the group through a few yoga like stretches. The lights raise, everyone stands up, starts clapping and saying (things in swedish of course) of congratulatory nature, and you find yourself thinking, "Did I really just spin for 45 minutes straight and actually enjoy it??"
Welcome to Swedish spinning. An exciting and ulitmately tiring cardio event, and something I hope to do every Tuesday from now on. It is so popular here that you have to call the morning before to reserve a spot. This all goes down at the gym I am a member at, "Nautilus." I have no idea if this kind of thing goes down in the US, yet if you get a chance to try this sometime, you simply have to. It was a great experience, I don't really have anything else to add to this post, yet I will be traveling to this place (http://www.pselprojekt.se/varberg/foton/varbergs_kallbadhus.jpg) on Sunday. Check out the picture, and I'll be able to tell you more later!
Hope everyone is doing well at home. It is great to continue to hear from you. I have been busy lately working on a contest for a small website. Check out my entry if you get a chance at http://speedanddesign.net/v-web/bulletin/mx/index.php?page=3&smartor_mode=album_cat&cat_id=30
My entry is titled "the Electric Twin" and my username is r.schmidt.
