Faith Week: Day 6

2006-03-02, Wanaka, New Zealand

Day 6

We woke up and packed up our things getting ready to leave for hitch hiking to Wanaka. Ross had to come back to the house to pick up Jay for work and they were going to drop us off at a good hitching point on the way. And as the Lord would have it, Ross is a chef at a little cafe in Wanaka and when he came to pick us up at the house he had baked us a basket of gourmet sandwiches, croissants, cookies, and these delicious chocolate bars. Which fed us for the entire day.

We soon got dropped off and began to hitch to Christchurch. We thought that it would be really easy to get picked up where we were but as usual, we were very wrong. It was really cold, wait, rigid outside this morning and we waited for an hour, and got tired of that so we walked. And we walked for an hour until we got picked up, by Orin. It was a short ride and soon we were hitching again. Which soon led to more walking for two hours, and finally we got a ride from Edwardo, who drove us to a lake in the middle of no where. Which was cool cause he was cool. He was from Kinawick, Washington. Close to Bend. Wicked.

We then embarked on for two and a half more hours, and then we finally got our ride to our final destination of Christchurch by Nick. Awesome but very quiet guy from France. He liked to laugh when He talked. And as it would normally be in the car rides I got to stay awake while the others slept. It's pretty funny.

Well we got to Christchurch and started by praying in the square. It was there I got the name Michael and we decided that we need to go to Lyttleton which is a small city just outside of Christhchurch. We started walking there quite late at night and it was 8 kilometers outside of Christchurch but we were able to find a bus that took us there for a majority of the way.

When we got there we figured out that infact we were supposed to be there to meet this man named Michael, which we did. And it was there we were supposed to go through a series of events that turned out, as we all decided, were very unsafe. And being there with him was a very unsafe place spiritually and physically to be. So we took our leave of this guy and walked back through Lyttleton, through Christchurch, and to a city called Redwood. (Total of approximately 12-15 Kilometers.) Once outside of Lyttleton we stopped to pray and we were pretty physically and spiritually drained. It was obvious that we couldn't continue another day, but I said we weren't going back to Oxford until Saturday. Wrong idea as the girls broke down crying. So we started heading in that direction.

That night we ended up sleeping underneath the over hang of a Salvation Army. It was pretty cold, very windy, and not comfortable, but it was good. We made it through the night.
