Fri 9th - Ferry to Wellington - checked into YHA and enjoyed being in civilisation!
Sat 10th - Wander round Wellington, the windy city. Had a look in the Te Papa museum - a huge place which is free to get in with all sorts of exhibits.
Sun 11th - Drove upto Mt. Taranaki - weather not great so didn't see the volcano at it's best.
Mon 12th - Waitamo caves- Paul went black water rafting in an under ground cave system with glow worms. Not as scary as it sounds apparently.
Tues 13th - Finally we got to Auckland and had a night at Andy's - LUXURY!!
Weds 14th - Drove the kauri coast and saw the oldest tree in the world - see pics.
16th - 22nd Dec - We did a quick stop tour of Rotoroua - a place with bubbling hot springs, boiling mud pools and geysers (very smelly), Lake Taupo, Bay of Islands and Coromandel Peninsula before heading back to Auckland for Christmas. We spent Xmas day on the beach and then had a bbq and generally enjoyed Andy and Kirsty's hospitality before the next leg of the trip
