Arrived in Hong Kong at 1am (early hours of the morning) to find people wandering about as if they've just come out for dinner, or going to a bar or just finished shopping!! This is a 24 hour society where people don't seem to sleep. Even families are out till after 10pm with children.
On the journey from the airport we went over a huge bridge and got our first glimpse of the famous skyline. Wow!
We spent our first day going to the main Island by ferry. The journey was fantastic with every minute bringing us closer to the towering buildings of all shapes and sizes with world famous names boldly defined on them.
I never thought seeing these buildings would be such a big deal but, the sheer size of them and the thought that goes into their design is magnificent to see. However, they look best when sitting on the ferry in the dark of the night watching the intricate individual light show of each one, lighting up the sky with different colours and reflecting in the sea below.
Shopping here is the past time for everyone it seems and there is no shortage of places to do just that. Everywhere you go there are several huge malls, the shops on the streets and off-course markets. And you can even find some TRENDY mountain wear, which i thought was impossible!
A ride on the famous tram that goes up very steep to the peak of a mountain, where you get more shops and malls and a great view of the harbour and buildings on the way was well worth the visit. Although there are the commercial buildings, the view is great of the mountains in the distance too.
We couldn't resist going to the newly opened Disneyland there (it was all Hitesh's idea!! Kid at heart.) It feels like you're in a different world full of smiles all around, and we really did have a great time! The best ride was Space Mountain, with the others, although quite imaginative, were being pretty tame.
The highlights were the live performances and the 3D show, which used smells and blasts of air and water corresponding to what was being shown on the big screen. Excellent!
Hong Kong is probably a place we will enjoy more a bit later on in our lives when we`re not on a backpackers budget.
