Bats

There are some small pipistrelle-type bats but mostly we see bats with wingspan approx. 8 inches hunting around the verandah lights. We've seen the huge fruit bats roosting in trees and flying around looking like opening credits to a Hammer House of Horror film but, sadly, we mostly saw them on electricity wires where they have perished. Some temples have enormous colonies of bats roosting with a great chattering and jostling and rustling of leathery wings. I was quite enchanted to see several thousand little upturned noses and beady eyes and was delighted to think of them flying out and eating lots of nasty mosquitos.
