So we have had a blast so far in Ayacucho. Walking around to a few parts we havent seen before. Kelly, Ian's wife, taught Britt how to make some traditional Peruvian dishes, they are pretty good!! Hopfully she'll be able to recreate them the same! We went to a few different markets and found some really funky mini masks for ourselves, started a small collection. Went to a fresh food market and had fresh juice and ponche, which is a weird eggnog like drink with a dark beer, we'll try to make it when we get home. Eww, we were walking around the market and in the back of one is a meat market and we looked down and saw fresh skinned guinea pigs, cow heads with eyeballs still intact, and the usual chickens with their heads still on. One night when we were leaving Ian's place we heard some clucking of some chickens and when we passed his neighbors outside sink we say she was defeathering the clucking noise!! She seems to slaughter a lot of animals as the night before we got there she had killed to sheep and a hen (which was Ian's) Very old school, or farm style I guess. We went on a picnis to a river on Sunday and Kelly made this really good traditional chicken dish that you cook in this huge pot with corn husks, chicken, cilantro, sweet potatoes, gigantic lima beans, and alfalfa, it was delicious!! Kind of just spent the rest of the time hanging out with the family and enjoying a familiar city! Had a great time, next stop Lima!!
